At first notice, Psychic Pigs didn’t sound like a band name, more like an illustration series by the late Frank Kozik. This new project from Brandon Welchez unlocks a furious upper-cut side to his writing style, one that’s the polar opposite of the garage pop melodies he’s been writing with Crocodiles for nearly two decades. The music is raw and fast, a clear departure from the harmonious muscle memory honed throughout his career and more into a sound that cuts like a sharpened hacksaw through metal. This description is best heard below with the debut self-titled single.

Helping Welchez to realize his Psychic Pigs vision are members of Fucked Up, Bad Sports, and Surfbort, making up the backing band in the studio and live on stage. Slovenly Recordings has signed on to release the debut album in late May. A record release show in Los Angeles is confirmed for May 23rd at Permanent Records Roadhouse, and more California dates are in the works. The Pigs cometh!

Vinyl preorders for Psychic Pigs debut LP are running through Slovenly Recordings.
