FiXT New Noise: Izzy Reign (The Queen of Horror) in the Spring Time

It may sound cliche, but when it comes to Izzy Reign and her debut album, she really did give it her all. The self-titled full-length was released last week via FiXT Music, a culmination of her genre-defying approach to songwriting. Genre is at best a secondary consideration for Izzy on this record. Each song blends metalcore, alternative metal, and hard rock. Each song is remarkably accessible as she bends each genre to her will, making it all fit together. On a more personal level, Izzy’s album reflects her struggles, as well as the general struggles that most people experience.

We all know Izzy enjoys the darkness and all things horror. From her inspiration from horror movies to her well-received cover of “This Is Halloween,” Izzy Reign proves time and time again that dipping into the dark side can be a delectable treat. With her recently released debut album, Izzy Reign, making waves around the world this spring, we sat down with Her Majesty, the Queen of Horror herself, to ask her what she does in springtime…

When people think of Izzy Reign, they picture gothic aesthetics, haunting melodies, screaming vocals, and a theatrical presence. But let’s talk about springtime. What does the Queen of Horror do when the world starts blooming?

Izzy Reign: “Run. Outside. Barefoot. As spooky of a queen as I may be. I love the outdoors and connecting with our earth. I will lay in the grass and plant as many flowers /food as I possibly can and only be indoors when I’m being eaten alive by mosquitoes (laughs).”

Do you embrace the season, or are you still lurking in the shadows, waiting for Halloween to return?

“Fully embrace. Meanwhile, my indoor ‘Halloween’ decor never gets taken down (laughs).”

If you had to design the perfect “dark spring” outfit, what would it be? Are we talking floral prints… but spooky?

“I often rock a whole lot of black… and there is almost never a day I don’t have combat boots on. But oddly enough, my standard outfit in spring is a massive oversized black hoodie as a dress with long thin socks, boots, and a beanie.”

Let’s say you’re forced to go on a classic spring picnic. What’s in your basket—cute tea sandwiches and lemonade, or something more sinister?

“Tea is always 10/10. But I lean more towards iced coffee, a whole lot of veggies, and some nice cabernet wine.”

Some people do spring cleaning, but we imagine the Queen of Horror’s version involves something far more dramatic. What’s your ultimate way of resetting and refreshing for a new season?

“A line from Practical Magic: ‘Clean house!’ I fully do believe in super cleaning out the house, ridding myself of past dust, items, or energy that no longer belongs in my life.”

If you could create a spring-themed horror movie, what would the plot be? Something about cursed flowers? A festival that goes horribly wrong?

“Oooooh. Definitely a creative horror twist on nature attacking mankind. There are a ton of movies where nature fights back, but I love them.”

Outside of music, what’s one springtime activity you secretly enjoy—gardening, hiking, maybe summoning spirits under a cherry blossom tree?

“All of the above. And also camping.”

Now that you’ve released your album, what’s something fresh and unexpected that fans can expect from it?

“Variety, diversity, and community. I fully intend on consistently growing the community that Izzy Reign truly is. Aiming to tour but that all depends! We shall see!”
