The International Indigenous Music Summit (IIMS) announces its 2025 edition, June 2nd to 6th, 2025, with details of this year’s Opening Night Gala, a marquee celebratory kickoff event that launches a week of artist showcases, conference programming, cultural exchange and conversation.

The Opening Night Gala will feature performances by improvisational singer, composer and bestselling author Tanya Tagaq, nine-time Grammy nominated Powwow and Round Dance drum group Northern Cree, Indigenous Guatemalan singer-songwriter and Maya Kaqchikel activist Sara Curruchich and Métis fiddle phenom Alex Kusturok from Edmonton. With this lineup, the Gala presents a formidable scope of artistry from all directions, spanning traditional to avant-garde musical forms. The IIMS Opening Night Gala will take place at TD Music Hall at Allied Music Centre on June 2nd, 2025. Tickets for the Opening Night Gala are now available here.

The Summit’s 2025 theme is Bemaazhid E-Niigaanzijig, an Anishinaabe phrase which means “Soaring Together as Leaders.” The theme orients this year’s program with a mindset of ‘we are all stronger together’ and the collective work of raising and uniting the global Indigenous community. Driven by the Summit’s commitment to collaboration and mutual benefit as the foundation to a thriving Indigenous music ecology, Bemaazhid E-Niigaanzijig sets a table with space for everyone.

Registration for IIMS 2025, including the Opening Night Gala and all programming June 2-6, 2025, is open to the general public. For details, click here.

The IIMS 2025 full artist lineup and program will be unveiled soon.
