DANGER SPOON Releases Electrifying Track “icu <3”
Los Angeles-based producer Danger Spoon has released their latest single “icu <3,” a personal track with a very big sense of humour.

Los Angeles-based hyperpop producer and artist DANGER SPOON has released their electrifying new single, “icu <3”—a track that blurs the line between passion and peril. Equal parts unhinged and tongue-in-cheek, the song transforms obsessive love into a full-blown medical emergency, pulsing with chaotic energy and glitchy hyperpop production.
Fusing warped R&B grooves, industrial percussion, and the blown-out intensity of metalcore production, “icu <3” is a sonic rollercoaster. From its breathy, restrained verses to the explosive chorus—where emergency sirens wail and saw synths collide—the track captures the exhilarating rush of desire spiralling out of control.
While producing largely in isolation, an early demo of “icu <3” caught the ear of multi-platinum producer Jimmy Duval (XXXTentacion, Ski Mask the Slump God, Bryce Vine). His reaction—“That’s insane. You’re a beast.”—became a defining moment for DANGER SPOON.
Commenting on the new song, DANGER SPOON states:
“There’s something weirdly similar between intense love and being completely at the mercy of something bigger than you. Both can feel obsessive, all-consuming, even violent in the way they take over your body. I think this song is my way of laughing at that—at how love can feel like a medical emergency. ‘icu <3’ has a double meaning—it’s both ‘I see you’ in an obsessive, all-consuming way, and I.C.U., like the Intensive Care Unit. I loved playing with the feeling of being so fixated on someone, it could literally put you in the hospital.”
Despite the track’s surreal humour, DANGER SPOON approaches their music with deeply personal themes. As a chronically ill artist, their work is shaped by experiences within the medical system, reflecting on identity, control, and survival.
Born in Toronto to North Vietnamese war refugees, DANGER SPOON (Kalli Lang) grew up in poverty and faced immense personal loss at a young age. At 19, their father passed away suddenly, leaving them without closure. Just two years later, they were hospitalized with lupus and kidney failure, facing their own mortality head-on. Thanks to life-saving treatment, they survived—but their life remains dictated by medication, medical bureaucracy, and the unpredictable nature of chronic illness.
Determined to carve their own path, they packed up their guitar, a camera, and two checked bags, moving to Los Angeles to pursue music. DANGER SPOON is not just an artist but a self-taught producer crafting raw, high-energy tracks that blend hyperpop, emo, glitchpop, R&B, EDM, and metalcore. Their music, often infused with pharmaceutical and medical themes, explores the intersection of humour, chaos, and deeply personal struggle.
With their pink Ableton setup, pitched vocals, glitchy samples, industrial percussion, and emo guitars, DANGER SPOON is redefining the boundaries of alternative electronic music—making aggressive, tongue-in-cheek, yet deeply honest anthems for those who have ever felt like they were running on borrowed time.
