Crooked Teeth Interview: Tyson Evans Discusses New Music, Influences, & Preferred Collaborators
Tyson Evans of Crooked Teeth joins us to discuss the band’s new single “One Week Off,” influences, and a collaborator wishlist.

We’re not even through the first quarter of 2025, and Crooked Teeth has already had an eventful year. The band recently released their new single “One Week Off,” which was monumental, not just because of the song, but because it marked the official unveiling of new bassist and co-vocalist Livi Dillon. It’s the first Crooked Teeth song to feature Dillon on vocals, an artist well known for her days touring with Emarosa.
Co-written with the highly regarded Nick Long, the song discusses the pitfalls of depression and getting by in life unmedicated. Band founder Tyson Evans recently remarked that “One Week Off” was the most honest and metaphor-free song he had ever written. This feels like a new era for the band for a multitude of reasons as they approach their tenth anniversary next year.
Evans joins us today for a short chat about the band’s music, creative process, and his collaborator wishlist.
How would you describe your own music?
Tyson Evans: “Loud, catchy, punk with some pop and sometimes some metal but also emo.”
What is the story behind your band/stage name?
“It’s the title of one of my favourite Death Cab for Cutie songs!”
How would you describe your creative process?
“It’s mostly born out of catharsis, to be honest. Usually starts with a line that I say out loud that resonates deep enough to keep growing into more, and typically, I’ve already got a riff on deck to place it with or try to at least!”

Who are your biggest influences?
“My favourite artist/songwriter of all time is Tom Petty, but I love bands such as Green Day, blink-182, Third Eye Blind, Hole, Nirvana, Paramore, and a whole bunch of others!”
Tell us about “One Week Off.” What was your experience of making it? What went on behind the scenes?
“It was another song/lyric idea that was just born out of a real-life scenario I found myself in. It started with the lyric, ‘One week off my medicine, higher than I’ve ever been,’ which was a direct feeling I had in the midst of a manic depressive episode. We took the song to Nick Long and really gave it some legs as a concept from there!”
Any notable moments that stand out?
“I think this song itself is just brutally honest, and that’s what I’m most proud of.”
Who would you most like to collaborate with?
“Travis Barker, Mark Hoppus, Tom Delonge, Kennyhoopla, K.Flay, PVRIS, and so many others!”
Which act would you want to tour with?
“blink-182!”
