The world is no stranger to chaos. But every so often, a piece of music arrives that quietly insists: amidst it all, love still matters. Casa Del Sol’s “Love In The Time Of War” is one such piece—a song with a birth story so cinematic, it might as well be a movie scene.

In the mid-’90s, John Modell watched his first child enter the world. The joy was immediate. So was the contrast. Minutes later, standing in a deli, still stained with the evidence of new life, he felt the pull to crystallize the moment. With no smartphone, he ran to a payphone and sang the song into his answering machine.

But what makes the story even more powerful is its next act: three decades later, the band unknowingly recorded that same song on Dylan’s 30th birthday, with Dylan present in the studio. Life has a way of folding in on itself like that.

The song is more than nostalgia. Inspired in part by the frontline humanitarian work of World Central Kitchen, Modell saw his private revelation reflected in public acts of bravery. The song became an ode to those who feed, love, and protect amidst destruction.

With its roots in folk-rock and its spirit wrapped in gospel tones, “Love In The Time Of War” speaks softly but carries depth. Casa Del Sol’s Strange Angels may be a debut, but it’s already rich with the kind of perspective that only time—and love—can bring.
