RATSALAD, the punk trio from Geraldton, WA, has just released a new single, “guilt_emo_rs_song.mp3”, and it’s everything we love about emo, grunge, and pop-rock, all rolled into one. The song mixes heavy guitars, catchy rhythms, and angsty vocals with a nostalgic aesthetic reminiscent of the .mp3-playing “old days”.

The track is a throwback to the early 2000s emo scene, complete with raw, emotional lyrics and moments of pure frustration. But RATSALAD adds their own Aussie spin, with shouty, energetic vocals and guitars that pack a punch. It’s a song about the struggle of trying to balance life, responsibility, and personal space, and the lyrics swing from anger to hope, making it super relatable for anyone feeling a little too stretched thin.

“It feels like it was plucked out of that nostalgic era somehow, but still with f*ckin’ squawky Aussie voices,” says Ken, the band’s guitarist. And he’s right. While “guilt_emo_rs_song.mp3” definitely pulls from the past, it still has that distinct, raw energy that makes it uniquely RATSALAD.

This is the band’s first release of 2025, and it’s the perfect lead-in to their biggest WA tour coming up this year. If you’re into emo, punk, or just good music with a lot of heart, “guilt_emo_rs_song.mp3” is a must-listen. Catch RATSALAD on tour too, and get ready for a wild ride.
