Kentucky Releases Latest Single “Runway”
Canadian singer-songwriter Kentucky has released his latest single “Runway,” a story of courage and transformation.
Kentucky, the rising Canadian singer-songwriter, began 2025 with the release of his newest single, “Runway.” As a follow-up to December’s “Santa Fe” and its evocative music video, “Runway” continues the musician’s story of courage and transformation. This latest offering stands alone as a poignant entry in Kentucky’s artistic evolution, offering listeners a raw and intimate glimpse into his reflections on change, love, and personal growth.
In 2024, Kentucky cemented his dedication to music with over 100 live performances across Ontario, Quebec, and his birthplace of Edmonton, Alberta. Each show saw audiences captivated by his dynamic guitar work and soaring, emotionally charged vocals. With “Runway,” Kentucky distills these live experiences into a deeply personal recording, showcasing the introspection and emotional depth his fans have come to cherish.
Kentucky, revealing more about the themes of renewal into which the song delves, explains:
“A man knows that the time has come to end his insecure ways with the woman he truly loves, and quickly finds out that change doesn’t come easy. You need a little runway.”
Drawing on his signature blend of acoustic rock and indie folk, Kentucky paints a vivid soundscape. The track opens with a stark, wintry stillness, evoking the tundras of isolation, before warming into hope through intricate fingerpicked guitar and a heartbeat rhythm of hand drums. Kentucky’s Neil Young-inspired tenor pierces through, weaving a tale of magnetism and the adjustments needed for love after years of wandering.
Recorded spontaneously in a single take with minimal production, the song’s raw and organic feel mirrors its emotional depth. Percussion was performed with hand drums, layered in one-take sessions to evoke the unfiltered rhythm of life.
