Clay and Kelsy Premiere Their Reflective New Single “Mirror”
Electronic pop multimedia songwriting duo Clay and Kelsy premiere their new single “Mirror” from their latest EP ‘Somebody (Act II).’
It would feel so incomplete to refer to Clay and Kelsy simply as musicians, but songwriting does stand amongst their most important endeavours. The twosome today premiere their newest single “Mirror,” an emotionally stirring song of self-reflection and growth. It is off of the electronic pop duo’s upcoming EP Somebody (Act II).
“Mirror” acts as a turning of the page to the next chapter in Clay and Kelsy’s musical journey. Their debut EP, I Am (Act I), focused primarily on descent and self-discovery. Somebody examines the pursuit of connection, the challenges of self-acceptance, and the uneven yet beautiful process of becoming. These songs were written at a critical time for the pair when they were still finding themselves. It was a time of learning and growth when it came to sexuality, gender, and general life choices. It only adds to the meaningfulness of Somebody as a record.
Offering some comments on “Mirror,” Clay and Kelsy state:
“I thought I was the problem for most of my life.
“It took me a long time to realize the world isn’t always honest and it kept me from being me.
“It is all the lines people say in disguise.
“It’s in our favourite movies, deep in the lines.
“So much investment to hurt me and people like me.
“You think it’s funny.”
Based in Los Angeles, Clay and Kelsy are not just musical artists but multi-tiered media powerhouses. They are songwriters, producers, and founders of CKI, a queer female-owned company specializing in the design of electronic instruments. They founded CKI in 2021 as a software company with the dream of creating attractive, innovative instruments that inspire new ideas and emotions instrumental in the development of new musical ideas. It’s an interesting idea and one that has distinguished them from others in the music and technology spaces.
Around the same time they founded CKI, Clay and Kelsy also began their songwriting journey. Their creative vision has been applauded for its uniqueness and focus on bold storytelling and creativity. They previously released a cover of Bob Marley’s classic “Three Little Birds” for Apple TV’s The Morning Show and it found its way to #1 on Apple Music’s soundtrack chart. They have only released a few songs thus far, but each has shown plenty of promise for a duo really coming into their own. It’s no understatement to say that Clay and Kelsy are truly on the cutting edge, and they are redefining what it means to be a modern-day musician.
