Brothers Osborne Bring a Good Time to Leeds O2 Academy [Photos]
Country rockers Brothers Osborne bring a good time to a sold-out Leeds O2 Academy. Check out the review and photos here…
It’s January in Leeds, and it’s chilly! However, on this Sunday night, it doesn’t stop the Brothers Osborne congregation from turning out in impressive numbers to pack out the O2 Academy for a barnstorming night of country rock. (Find more tour info here.)
This sold-out crowd queuing halfway across the city were not the only ones feeling the cold as opening act, Alabama country rocker Tyler Braden commented early on in his set that this was probably the coldest venue he had ever played in. That being said, his heartfelt, passionate tunes quickly warmed up this crowd with “Call Me First” and snippets of “500 Miles” from The Proclaimers going down a storm with a room that was rapidly filling out.
As for Maryland brothers TJ and John, from the moment they hit the stage and into opener “Might As Well Be Me,” it’s clear the duo are here to make sure Leeds rocks the end of another weekend away. Front to back, there isn’t a space to be had in the room and with smiles plastered across the faces of the front couple of rows, TJ and John were not the only ones here for a good time on this Sunday night.
With a penchant for writing huge, anthemic country rockers, the Brothers Osborne power their way through “Shoot Me Straight,” while “Break Me” brings down the tempo slightly midway through the set. Elsewhere, “I Won’t Back Down” and “Burning Man” and a dash of country grit to proceedings before “Heart Shaped” sees the two brothers stomping to the finish line with the sound of this Leeds crowd clapping away still ringing in their ears.
Back home, the Brothers Osborne pack out arenas across the States and listening to their organic, gravel-splashed country anthems, it’s easy to see why. It also makes you realize that if you had a ticket for one of the dates on this more intimate run of UK shows, you are in for an absolute treat, as this Leeds crowd can attest to.
