If you’re going to make a special acknowledgement of an anniversary, you better do it in a way that pays tribute to the essence and legacy of what you are. That’s exactly what Sight of Emptiness has set out to do with their new single “Soul Ascension” and forthcoming new album. With the song having debuted last month, the band has now unveiled its accompanying visualizer video.

Sight of Emptiness has been slowly working towards the release of Above the Noise, their highly anticipated fifth studio release. The album’s first single, “Mandates of Hate,” dropped back in October. There’s no holding back when it comes to Sight of Emptiness, and these first two singles emphasize that to the highest of degrees. As a song, “Soul Ascension” dives deeply into the depths of the human soul. It scrapes at the bowels of where darkness, light, and the pursuit of redemption lay. The song itself is a battle between the light and the dark, a fight that is relatable to anyone who has felt lost or is crying out for meaning and purpose.

Discussing the video, Concept Designer and CG Visuals Designer Fibonacho (Ignacio Bolaños) states:

“The ‘Soul Ascension’ visualizer represents the overwhelming experiences and turbulent processes that push us to grow and transcend our limitations. It captures a transformative phase in the human journey, where what defines us can sometimes hold us back from reaching our highest potential. This visualizer explores the inherent balance in life: to gain something, you must be willing to let go. The central character is shown undergoing a transformation, shaped by mental processes of surrender, trusting intuition, and navigating challenging environments.

“In today’s world, marked by widespread substance abuse, intergenerational trauma, and the repercussions of wars and mass migrations, this piece resonates deeply. My hope is that this visualizer speaks to populations at risk and offers a connection to these shared struggles.

“Visually, the inspiration came from modern glitch art, ’90s computer graphics, odd patterns, extraterrestrial phenomena, and various forms of noise. The dominant green hues and interplay of black and white were intentional choices, helping to establish the toxic and uncertain context of the visualizer while maintaining consistency with the single’s cover artwork.”

The new year is a special one for Sight of Emptiness as it marks 20 years since their formation. Consequently, they went into the writing and recording of Above the Noise with a heightened sense of responsibility. They wanted this album to pay tribute to two decades of heavy metal excellence, a piece of work that would stand amongst their finest work. The album will be a testament to their enduring legacy, paying tribute to what’s come before and what’s to come next. Above the Noise will be a showcase of their evolution.

In essence, they are still the same band that emerged out of Costa Rica in 2005, but they want to highlight the positive changes that have taken place in that time. They are all much better musicians and instrumentalists than they once were. But perhaps most importantly, they have always remained focused on pushing the boundaries of heavy metal music. The band has done that with both style and an unwavering commitment to their fans and each other.
