Janiq Brings Caribbean Pop Flavours with Her Latest Release “Dior”
Trinidadian singer and performer Janiq recently released her new single, “Dior,” drawing inspiration from her Caribbean heritage.
Trinidadian-born artist Janiq recently released her latest single, “Dior.” This vibrant and empowering anthem celebrates self-confidence and individuality while playfully poking fun at the concept of “tragic love.”
Fusing Caribbean pop influences with a modern twist, Janiq is poised to captivate audiences worldwide. Known for her stellar performances on the British theatre stage, where she dazzled as Nala in The Lion King and Queen Catherine Parr in the Tudor Queen, Spice Girl-themed musical Six, she now brings that same dynamic energy to her music.
Drawing inspiration from her Caribbean heritage and pop icons such as Beyoncé, Rihanna, SZA, Dua Lipa, and Britney Spears, she seamlessly blends the lively rhythms of soca and dancehall with the smooth elements of R&B.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind “Dior,” Janiq shares:
“With my ex, I had a crazy romantic type of fairytale love, like Romeo and Juliet. I was whisked up in a whirlwind of emotions that make you do dumb things. Long story short, we broke up; he was toxic and tried to convert me to a lifestyle where material riches weren’t a thing… blocked and deleted.
“Shakespeare called it a tragedy for a reason. I wrote this song thinking, I love ‘love, but I’m a proud material girl, sorry not sorry. Remove ‘struggle love’ from the itinerary, please and thank you.”
With powerful vocals and a cheeky playfulness, Janiq’s songwriting shines in “Dior.” The song explores themes of love and self-worth, resonating with listeners everywhere.
The artist’s mantra encapsulates her vision:
“Either stick with someone who makes your day and matches your slay, or just throw the whole relationship away. Romeo was a waste man. Tragic love is overrated.”
As she prepares to launch her debut single, Janiq’s unmatched energy and passion sets her up to become a formidable force in the pop music landscape.
