Mountford Hall in Liverpool, with its capacity of just over a couple of thousand, has put on some quite special gigs in recent times, with both Biffy Clyro and Stereophonics gracing this stage for intimate gigs. The latest to pack out this room was St. Albans’ very own Enter Shikari, who were in town supporting their Dancing On The Frontline compilation, hitting a series of town overlooked on major tours.
Given that Enter Shikari are bona fide arena headliners in their own rights, these shows are much more stripped back but are still, as any good Shikari show should be, a total assault on the senses. Right from the get-go, with tracks like “Bloodshot” and “The Dreamer’s Hotel,” this was clearly going to be the kind of Shikari show that, for these hardcore fans, would rate up there with one of their most memorable.
Anyone who saw their recent arena tour would know exactly what to expect from Enter Shikari live, so to condense that down into venues a tenth of the size of that tour was going to be a challenge. However, this is Enter Shikari, a band who, tour after tour, album after album, breakdown the boundaries to create an incredible, immersive experience for fans. Up close and personal for this run, the band achieved this, and when the audio and visual elements combined with the blistering energy of crowd-pleasers like “Sorry You’re Not A Winner,” it resulted in absolute pandemonium both onstage and off.
Now frontman Rou Reynolds is known for his passion on subjects close to his heart and, on this tour, things are no different. Supporting Paper Cup Project, a Liverpool-based charity, which supports the homeless through their city centre coffee shop Paper Cup Coffee, the band have organised a raffle to aid the project.
