Six-piece collective Seafarers are back with their fresh new album, Another State. Since their formation in 2018, Seafarers have long been known to span the worlds of indie rock, chamber pop, and jazz, and their latest offering intertwines these perfectly.

Recorded at Real World Studios, Another State is another thoughtful and intricate release, following in the footsteps of debut album Orlando, which laced threads of freedom, solitude, and longing, and second album II, which explored the bittersweet depths of teenager-dom. At ten tracks long, listeners can expect further introspection from Another State, with varying perspectives and observations.

Originated by renowned Scottish saxophonist and songwriter, Matthew Herd continues to work extensively throughout the jazz world (Jacob Collier, Liam Noble, Misha Mullov-Abbado) and beyond (Simon Armitage, Elanor Moss, The Howl & The Hum, DJ Yoda, Glass Animals), bringing refined craftsmanship to the compositions of Seafarers.

Highly revered vocalist and improviser Lauren Kinsella can be heard carrying the evocative female lead in Seafarers. Known for her highly personal approach seen in co-led band Snowpoet (Thought You KnewNPR ‘Best Jazz Albums 2018’), this certainly transpires on Another State. Based between London and her hometown of Dublin, Kinsella’s work spans jazz and performance poetry, fitting expertly in Seafarers.

Arun Thavasothy co-commands the electric guitar, acoustic guitar, and bass on Another State. As one of the most distinctive new voices in the London music scene, his sensitive, characterful sound and detailed songwriting have gained nationwide attention from musicians and audiences alike.

Alongside Thavasothy is Tom McCredie, another stellar bass and guitar player bringing years of experience and a firmly established reputation to Seafarers. Held in the highest regard for his original instrumentation and writing, he adds a certain spark to any music under his touch, including Another State and his parallel project Tel Trio.

Known for his intimate compositions and improvisations, pianist Tom Taylor brings a grounding, personable quality to Another State that was previously seen in his 2020 album First Light. Hailed as simply “gorgeous” by JazzFM, his playing acts as the binding undercurrent to Seafarers.

From his eclectic repertoire of independent singer-songwriters (Dominie Hooper, The Magic Lantern) to jazz heavyweights (Ivo Neame, Snowpoet), Dave Hamblett’s drumming is a frequent fixture. Demonstrated by his debut album Light by Night and consistent input in Seafarers, every track Hamblett touches turns to gold with his pinpoint-perfect percussion and dynamic drumming.
