Lys Morke Shares ‘Live Therapy’ EP
Barcelona-based dark electronic artist Lys Morke announces the release of her new EP ‘Live Therapy’ out now via Artoffact Records.
Barcelona-based dark electronic artist Lys Morke unveils her captivating new EP, Live Therapy, available now via Artoffact Records, along with an immersive live session video featuring all three tracks.
Live Therapy offers an intimate glimpse into Lys Morke’s haunting performances, featuring live renditions of three mesmerizing tracks from her debut EP, Knife Therapy. The live session video brings the experience to life, showcasing her ethereal vocals and atmospheric soundscapes in a visually stunning format.
As Lys Morke explains, “Playing live is key to my creative process, it adds a new dimension to the songs and lets them evolve in ways that can even shape the final production. Performing computer-produced tracks live can be challenging, but with Jaime and Judit in the trio, it highlights each layer and I get to have fun with my vocal effects too!”
Reflecting on the decision to release live renditions of these tracks, Lys Morke shares:
“Fleeting Feeling, Wrong Places, and Affection thrive live, and I wanted to capture that raw energy so listeners can get a glimpse of it and maybe want to experience it in person in future shows.”
Opening with “Fleeting Feeling,” the EP sets an unnerving tone with spoken word elements that soon shift into a battle between bass-heavy, heart-thumping rhythm and steel-on-steel synth textures. Lys Morke soars above it all with ethereal vocals that pitch and shift with deft falsettos and high melodies, pulling at heartstrings from the rafters.
“Wrong Places,” highlights her expertly crafted vocals, the focal point amidst a roiling mass of synth layers and hypnotic beats. The song swells into a maelstrom before mercifully releasing the listener, showcasing her ability to build and release tension with masterful control.
Closing out the EP is “Affection,” where Lys Morke’s vocals take on an operatic melodrama. The song gains momentum with sinister synths and looming beats, culminating in a performance that is both haunting and enthralling. Her voice resonates with an intensity reminiscent of Björk at her darkest or Chelsea Wolfe during her most electronic leanings. The deft instrumentation, solidity of musical layers, and flawless vocal delivery make it a testament to Lys Morke’s exceptional talent. The result is an experience that compels the listener or viewer to see Lys Morke perform in person.
