Diane Roblin to Release ‘Breath of Fresh Air’ on December 6 via ZSAN Records

Celebrated pianist, composer, and bandleader, Diane Roblin is set to release her latest album, Breath of Fresh Air, on December 6, 2024, through ZSAN Records. Known for her powerful compositions and expressive keyboard work, Roblin has earned her place among Canada’s most respected women in jazz. Her spirited approach combines technical prowess with a deep commitment to the connective power of music, moving audiences in Canada and beyond.

Breath of Fresh Air continues Roblin’s genre-crossing journey, blending jazz, funk, and impressionist harmony into compositions as adventurous as they are emotionally resonant. Leading her six-piece ensemble, Life Force, Roblin creates high-energy soundscapes with intricate, moving improvisations. Acclaimed bassist and album producer George Koller lays down a solid foundation, while trumpeter Kevin Turcotte brings agile, inventive phrasing to each track. Jeff LaRochelle adds warmth on tenor sax and bass clarinet, John Johnson contributes vibrant textures on woodwinds, and drummer Tim Shia anchors the ensemble with nuanced, dynamic rhythms.

Roblin’s career spans collaborations with a range of Canadian jazz and experimental artists, from avant-garde legend Charles Gayle to rock icons Rough Trade. In addition to traditional jazz performances, Roblin regularly explores experimental formats, including telematic music with NYC’s Sarah Weaver’s NowNet Inc. Lab Ensemble. Her performances have graced prominent venues across North America and Europe, from Toronto’s Kensington Market Jazz Festival to New York’s Smalls and Amsterdam’s Bimhuis.

Roblin’s dedication to the jazz community extends beyond performance. She is an active member of the Association of Canadian Women Composers, helping to support and promote Canada’s rich jazz and compositional scene.
