Dave Disci joins us for a Quick & Dirty interview, answering a collection of random questions about an array of topics.

What three things can’t you live without?

Dave Disci: “At the moment being in my occupation, it has to be my phone, computer, and support system.”

What motivated you to start a reaction channel on YouTube?

“I was struggling to find a genre that I felt was true to me but at the same time was something that people wanted to see. It was clear after my first reaction video that there was a huge demand for this type of content in that genre and there was not enough of that content. Which is strange to say because there was and still is so much of that content.”

How did you promote/advertise your channel?

“I focus on making content that resonates with people and hope for the best. I typically just post on social media and let the algorithms do the rest.”

If YouTube didn’t exist, what would you be doing?

“I would probably enjoy working in marketing. Actually, I do have two jobs outside of YouTube. I am the CEO and founder of a real estate rental company, as well as do social media consulting for businesses and influencers.”

What do you do for fun?

“I like to try new restaurants but that does get expensive.”

What’s your favourite book or movie, and why?

“Right now, I’m obsessed with a lot of indie-style films. I just watched Magpie which came out at SXSW and was on my mind for the last few days. And then I went to the premiere of Conclave, which in my opinion has an indie feel.”

Top three songs of all time?

“This is ever-changing but I love ‘Back Home’ by Andy Grammer, ‘Good Luck’ by Chappell Roan, and ‘Euphoria’ by Jung Kook.”

What are three words that describe you?

“Passionate, crazy, idiot.”

What do you think is your greatest accomplishment?

“My biggest accomplishment has nothing to do with any specific career milestone, but I feel my greatest accomplishment is achieving a level of self-confidence. It was coming to realize that I deserve to pursue a career that I love, that I am allowed to, and it’s ok to. Believing that if I fall and I do fall a lot, I will be able to pick myself up. And just believing that I am enough overall.”

What’s the most random fact you know?

“In a specific area in Pennsylvania, all fire hydrants must be checked one hour before all fires.”

As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

“I wanted to be a doctor, and I did eventually try to pursue a medical career in college but ended up dropping out when I found another passion.”

What is something that no one else seems to care very much about but makes you crawl the walls?

“It definitely has to be the analytics and performance of a video. And this isn’t just my own videos but any client that I work with. I could talk for hours about it.”

Must-have on your rider?

“Not much, maybe a soda or a snack? I’ve only been in a green room maybe a handful of times and typically I’m too excited (anxious) to eat anything.”

What is one thing you’re good at that people don’t expect?

“This is part of the self-confidence thing I’m working on because I don’t think I’m good at much.”

If you could have dinner with anyone (dead or alive), who would it be?

“Maybe Michael Jackson, I would love to hear what he thinks happened to him.”

Any advice for people looking to start their own YouTube channel?

“Throw spaghetti at a wall and see what sticks. And then when it does, double down on it and keep doing that. Of course, make sure it’s content you actually want to do.”
