Wallows Bring Intimacy and Energy to Manchester O2 Victoria Warehouse [Photos]
LA indie three-piece Wallows bring their intimacy and energy to Manchester for the first of two nights at the O2 Victoria Warehouse…
It’s always worth getting down to a venue early because you just don’t know what you might miss out on. Proof of this comes for those fans who arrived early at Manchester’s cavernous O2 Victoria Warehouse to see Los Angeles alternative rock trio Wallows.
Filling the sounds of this room was tour support Matilda Mann. The London-based songwriter provided a wonderful soundtrack to the early part of the evening. Intimate, gentle, but yet still anthemic and powerful, Mann treated those already filing into the venue to tracks like “Say It Back”. Enchanting the audience with stories about her songs in the breaks, Mann was certainly a fitting choice for support with her personality as enchanting as her music.
Opening with “Do Not Wait,” and into “Your Apartment”, it rapidly becomes very easy to see why the indie three-piece from Los Angeles have become such a hit with music fans. Thanks to Wallows emotional, and personal lyrics, the connection between fans and band is easy to see and while everyone in the room has their own favourite track, the set is filled with so many choices where the band and their audience feel like one.
A switch of places almost midway through the set saw drummer Cole Preston take over the mic for “Quarterback” while “Bad Dream”, “You (Show Me Where My Days Went)” and “At The End of The Day” ensured there was no mid set lull from the band despite the easier tones of “Bad Dream”. Wrapping up the night with “Only Friend”, Wallows left the stage on the first night of a two-night stint at this venue. Twelve months ago they were performing at the more intimate Manchester Academy but, tonight showed that a jump to a bigger venue was not only fully deserved but lost none of either the intimacy, energy or connection this band create.
V13’s Katie Probert Photography headed down to the O2 Victoria Warehouse and brought back this awesome gallery.
