Do you ever miss the indie rock hits that dominated the 2000s? Two Door Cinema Club brought us back in time on their Indianapolis stop at the Everwise Amphitheater on the North American leg of their tour, evoking the peak summer nostalgia of that era.

The show kicked off promptly at 8:00 pm with the Quarters of Change, a rising alternative rock band hailing from New York City, setting the tone for the night. The quartet delivered a strong opening performance with their charismatic stage presence, angsty vocals, and impressive artistry.

After a brief intermission, the main act, Two Door Cinema Club, took the stage. The band members, consisting of guitarist and lead vocalist Alex Trimble, bassist Kevin Baird, and lead guitarist Sam Halliday, were met with an explosive roar of applause. Known for their upbeat tempo, disco-inspired drum beats, and synth-driven dance-pop sound, the band wasted no time diving into their electrifying set. Each member was completely in sync, producing lively melodies in a seamless display of band harmony. Alex sang with passion and drive as the frontman, complemented by Kevin and Sam’s vibrant backing vocals.

The band’s presence was warm and authentic, replete with genuine interactions with the audience. When Alex remarked that it was pretty special performing in Indianapolis, the response was a resounding cheer, adding a personal touch to the night.

Two Door Cinema Club’s setlist included all the fan favourites, primarily featuring songs from their 2010 debut album, Tourist History. The band played nine out of ten tracks from the album, including hits like “What You Know,” “Undercover Martyn,” “Something Good Can Work,” “I Can Talk,” “This Is the Life,” and “Cigarettes In the Theatre.” The set had a cohesive, unrelenting energy, with each song flowing effortlessly into the next, producing a neverending string of danceable beats. A standout moment was “I Can Talk,” with its infectious guitar riffs and lively melody leaving the entire crowd bouncing along.

They closed with their catchy crowd-favourite “What You Know,” an irresistible dance anthem that left the audience buzzing with excitement. The night felt like the perfect summer finale, encapsulating the essence and vitality of indie rock.
