Super Monster Party Spawns “Blue Hurricane” for Sonic the Hedgehog’s 33rd Birthday
Video game loving band Super Monster Party has released their new single “Blue Hurricane” in honour of Sonic the Hedgehog’s 33rd birthday.
Super Monster Party is a band for all video game nerds, jump’n’run enthusiasts, metalheads, ’90s kids, weirdos, and everyone in between – a metal band that’s all about video games, singing from the heroes or villains introspective point of view. And they also have their own free-to-play, old-school nostalgia-inspired 2D jump’n’run game titled Permadeath with a soundtrack consisting of the instrumentals of their own powerful tracks.
Long story short: Super Monster Party’s music sounds like what your dearest classic video games would sound like if they’d grown up with you during the last decades, while the lyrics take you on a captivating journey into the mind of your favourite gaming protagonists, good guys, and bad guys. The band’s music, as well as their game, transport the recipient into the world of Permadeath, a colourful blend of classic 16-bit pixelated video game world replicas, which you, as “The Hero/Champion,” have to conquer. At the same time, the soundtrack ties the whole experience together and sucks you into Super Monster Party’s unique universe.
In the lead-up to the release of their new album Rage Quit on November 11th, Super Monster Party is dropping their new video single “Blue Hurricane” just in time for Sonic the Hedgehog’s 33rd birthday – as a tribute to the speedy blue spiny mammal. The soundtrack of the beloved jump’n’run game Sonic the Hedgehog undoubtedly has a special place in a lot of gamer hearts, but “Blue Hurricane” serves as an outstanding example of what the game could sound like when fully leaning into the little hedgehog’s fierce badassness.
How much damage can Super Monster Party do per second? Lead guitarist Oleh Andrievsky has certainly trained his fine motor skills to a level of perfection, contributing his genius long distance from Ukraine. His lively turbo guitar riffs resemble the fast-paced gameplay of Sonic, and the lyrics of “Blue Hurricane” take you back to those moments in your childhood when you had to stay home sick and would just play video games all day and diving into these little pixelated dimensions made everything suck a little bit less.
Except of course when you encountered the evil scientist Dr. Robotnik and were faced with the responsibility of preventing the Eggman from taking over the world. Whatever you’re doing while hearing “Blue Hurricane” – you will fondly see the tree tops of Green Hill as well as the Final Zone reappearing before your mind’s eye. And, this track will surely light your ass on fire and push you to finally achieve that super hard Sonic speedrun you have been fantasizing about since your childhood, instead of ragequitting the game for the 666th time.
“Blue Hurricane” is a critical hit that will surely snatch a high score of gamer hearts. There is no doubt that by the end of this summer, every Super Monster Party fan will know the game plan: “And together, the whole world will sing – GO SONIC GO!”
