Soul Gazer Declare “W.A.R.” with the Premiere of Their Debut Single
British hard rockers Soul Gazer premiere their riff-rocking debut single “W.A.R.,” available via Earache Digital Distribution.

As Soul Gazer proves in their debut single, “W.A.R.,” the spirit of badass British rock will never die out. Not if these gentlemen have anything to do with it with their crass, unpolished, riff-rocking grooves and headbanging beats.
“W.A.R.” has all of the prime elements of a great hard rock song; it’s upbeat, powerful, and aggressive as hell. In other words, it packs a punch. If you’re feeling good or even feeling bad, this is one of those almighty tracks that will have a way of resonating with you. Officially out on October 11th via Earache Digital Distribution, the song is also quite topical given current global circumstances.
With some words on the background and motivation behind “W.A.R.,” Soul Gazer states:
“The song is a passionate and forceful lash out from Soul Gazer against the war-hungry tyrants that make up our ruling classes. It’s a song born from the frustrations of feeling helpless in a world where appalling suffering in the likes of Palestine and Ukraine have become all too normalized everyday occurrences.”
Soul Gazer was initially formed out of a chance encounter between singer and guitarist Ty Freeman and bassist Joel Phillips. Their initial meeting occurred in the Reeperbahn, the main street in the entertainment district in Hamburg, Germany. Both Freeman and Phillips were and remained frequent travellers, and their week-long stay in Hamburg transformed into a two-year adventure busking around Europe. Eventually, Freeman settled in Zürich, where he took action to fill out the rest of the band. Drummer Jakob Uhlenhopp was the next addition, along with guitarist Joe Smith. Freeman had previously known Smith from their days together in their native Liverpool.
Soul Gazer is Freeman’s creative outlet for all of the music he wrote during this interesting time in his life. Travelling around Europe, he learned and observed a lot as the world shut down around him. This is his statement on the world and a manifestation of all of his British rock heroes.
