London indie rock quartet Sea Girls have been a staple of the British rock scene since 2015, and judging by the response to their latest album, Midnight Butterflies, and subsequent headline tour, the love affair between the band and the UK rock scene is as strong as ever.
Opening the show were fellow indie rock outfit Daydreamers, who many of you will probably know from their recent TikTok viral hit “Call Me Up,” which racked up an impressive quarter of a million views. Compared to bands like The 1975, 2024 has been a strong year for the band, and as they power through their set in Portsmouth, 2025 will hopefully see them becoming an even more familiar name on the rock circuit.
As for Sea Girls, this is a band who are now firmly entrenched in the British rock scene. Having released their third album, Midnight Butterflies, earlier this Summer, it comes as no surprise to find that the set list pulls a good portion of the tracks from the aforementioned new album.
Four of the first seven songs the band played tonight come from the new album, including “First on My List,” “Superman,” and “After Hours.” However, it is when the band delve into their back catalogue that the connection the fans have with their more-established material becomes apparent.
Cuts like “Hometown” and “All I Want To Hear You Say” are two of the highlights of the set, with the latter bringing the night to a magical conclusion. It has to be said that scanning down the Sea Girls set list, the indie band have got the blend of old and new just right. Joined on stage by their support for “Does Only God Know That We’re Lonely?,” Sea Girls proved tonight that, while they might be heading into their tenth year in 2025, they’re a band who are at the top of their game.
