Isabella&Sebastian Sweeten Things Up with Their “Jellyfruit” Music Video [Premiere]
Indie pop duo Isabella&Sebastian premiere their latest music video for “Jellyfruit,” a hate letter to the candy of the same name.
With some artists like Isabella&Sebastian, you’re just born with it. We’re talking about talent which each of them clearly has an abundance of. The duo is pleased to reveal their new music video for “Jellyfruit” today. Both based in Memphis, Isabella DeFir and Sebastian Stephens are quickly establishing themselves as a pop duo to which to pay close attention. But even to refer to them as “pop” would be oversimplifying it given their elaborate sound.
Their sound has a prominent retro vibe to it, a synth-infused analog-driven sound that is more ’80s than it is 2020s. And what really sticks out in songs like “Jellyfruit” is their level of professionalism and maturity. This is the sound of consummate and experienced professionals.
Discussing the background behind “Jellyfruit,” Isabella tells us:
“I actually wrote this song as a hate letter to jellyfruit (the candy), but, the broader metaphor is about analyzing and acknowledging a narcissistic partner’s behaviour. This person is known for love bombing to manipulate situations, and the singer is fed up. The song acts as a monologue, as the singer understands that things might not get better, but they accept that fact and prepare to make a decision.”
The desire to write music and record has been ingrained in both of them practically since birth. Isabella was interested in singing by the time she was 5, while Sebastian got his first drumkit at 3. Since then, Isabella has become a gifted lyricist, while Sebastian is establishing himself as a premier multi-instrumentalist and composer. They combine both a love of music and a lightheartedness which combine to make them a very likable indie duo. Isabella believes strongly in the value of a grassroots approach and old-fashioned hard work. It’s thanks to her work ethic that has got her to this point.
Outside of his musical endeavours, Sebastian has also become an accomplished actor. By age 10, he had performed in the Broadway series School of Rock, The Musical. He also appeared in Wes Anderson’s star-studded 2023 film Asteroid City.
