Fans of Swedish “violincore” outfit Imminence arrived in London ready to stake their spot in the moshpit at the Electric Ballroom. Such is the popularity of the Swedish alternative metalcore band this not only guarantees a packed house for all three bands here, it means that, from the off, the atmosphere around this sold-out venue is cracking.

Kicking off the night were Swedish progressive metalcore crew Allt, who arrived in the capital having just released their debut album, From The New World. With only a short time on stage, the band set about their business with minimum fuss. Airing tracks from their debut album, the Swedish metallers soon got the first moshpits of the evening warmed up with album tracks like “Remnant” and “Echoes,” setting a high standard for the rest of the gig.

With the fuse lit on this explosive bill, next up were fellow Swedes Aviana, who kicked off their forty-minute set with the current single “Delirium.” Unsurprisingly, their dark, cinematic metalcore was an absolute hit with the London metal scene, with minimal effort needed from the Swedish band to work the crowd into action. Storming through their set, the energy in the room was crackling by the time “Anomaly” and “Obsession” had brought their time on stage to an end.

Having recently been visited by Arch Enemy, In Flames and Soilwork, it was up to Imminence to show the metal world what we’ve known for many years, and that is how far ahead of the game Swedish metal is. It also shows that the new breed of Swedish metal is going to keep the scene in good hands, and if you are looking for leaders to take Swedish metal into the future, then look no further than Imminence. Describing their sound as “violincore,” the band are touring in support of their stunning 2024 album The Black, so it comes as no surprise to find the set weighs heavily with material from that album.

Imminence delivers a set that is quite literally flawless. The complete package, Imminence looks, sounds and performs like a band who are rapidly outgrowing venues of this size. Their sound is anthemic, and the addition of violins to the mix sees them pushing the boundaries of a genre that many find stale and past its sell-by date. Imminence is far from that as the epic sound of “Desolation” and “Beyond The Pale” from their new album fills the room and, as the title track wraps up this night of Swedish brilliance, all three bands but the headliners especially, leave us with an exciting glimpse into the future of Swedish metal.

V13’s Mihail Hristov Photography was one of the lucky few to attend, and you can check out his gallery here, along with Imminence’s setlist.
