One of several events run by Monopoly Events across the UK throughout the year, For The Love Of Horror is a highlight in the horror calendar every year now. A two-day event featuring meet-and-greets, replica horror sets, cosplay competitions, and more, the event has been a must for any horror fan, and this year was no different as it returned to its home at the BEC Arena in Manchester.

Even the walk up to the arena to head into this year’s packed event is like a scene from The Walking Dead as all manner of ghouls, zombies and gruesome fans descend on the arena. However, once inside, the event is a sensory overload with masked-up horror fans as far as the eye can see. While there is no theme, there is a plethora of characters from this year’s horror faves, including Terrifier and Longlegs. That being said, whichever way you turn, the familiar favourites are always in attendance, from Leatherface to Freddie to Jigsaw.

Aside from the impressive cosplay event, an entire room in the arena is set aside for stalls where you can empty your bank balance on movies, posters, artwork, costumes, and food, all horror-themed and of the highest quality.

Back in the main room, the main stage features Q&A sessions with some of the scene’s favourites, including Saw, Night of the Demons, and Terrifier. Throughout the hall, fans queue up to meet their heroes. If that isn’t enough, replica movie scenes and sets entice fans for photos with characters from classics like The Thing, Saw and numerous others.

Year after year, For The Love of Horror returns to Manchester, and year after year, ghoul freaks from across the UK descend upon the BEC Arena for two days of splattermania. If you’re in any way a fan of the genre, For The Love Of Horror will be a weekend of blood-soaked heaven. If you’re not, best think carefully about coming as you’ll get the fright of your life.

I have an unhealthy obsession with bad horror movies, the song Wanted Dead Or Alive and crap British game shows. I do this not because of the sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll lifestyle it affords me but more because it gives me an excuse to listen to bands that sound like hippos mating.
