Erin Gibney Premieres Her Self-Assured New Single “by june”

As was made apparent in our premiere of her “You Made Your Bed” single last year, Erin Gibney takes an honest approach to songwriting. That might sound clichéd, but it makes sense when you listen to her dramatic and emotional lyrics. Today, Gibney returns with her confessional storytelling with her latest single, “by june.”

The standalone track, released via Rock Ridge Music, is an empowering reflection on a relationship that has gone sour. It’s like a reminder to yourself that even if things seem like they couldn’t be any worse, it’ll all end up ok in the end, or “by june.” This is Gibney’s most confessional single, which is saying a lot considering the fact that she’s never been afraid of hiding her feelings as a songwriter.

Discussing the background behind the song, Gibney says:

“I am so excited for ‘by june’ to finally be out in the world. I wrote this song shortly after leaving my long-term relationship, and it is my favourite song I have ever written. At the time of writing ‘by june,’ I was terrified that I would never fully move on from my ex. We were together for five years, and it felt scary to face a world without that relationship when it had become all I knew. My friends kept reminding me that time heals all wounds and that by the next summer, I would heal from the pain of the breakup.

“I brought ‘by june’ to (producer) Cam McClaren in the spring, and he made this song even more beautiful and moving than I could have imagined. The recording process was incredibly seamless, and I left feeling like I had a piece of art that I was really proud of. This song helped me face moving on and made it possible for me to actually be over him by June.”

Since her early days as a songwriter, Gibney has always viewed herself as a storyteller. She views honesty as one of the most important elements of writing songs and that approach has been bolstered by the people around her. Her closest supporters have always encouraged her to be authentic and not pull any punches with her approach to songwriting.
