Crows Take Us on a Tour of Their Top 10 Tourist Attractions in London
London band Crows love touring and love tourist attractions. Here is a rundown of their top 10 places to visit while in their hometown.
On September 27th, London indie quartet Crows released their third album, Reason Enough through Bad Vibrations. Described as the one the band have taken the longest to write – partly because they had to fit the exercise around working full-time jobs, but also because of the freedom that was afforded to them around this specific project, which takes the post-punk four piece’s historically adrenaline-fuelled sound into fresh territory.
That being said, one of the perks of being in a band is the ability to hit the road and tour far-off places with your best mates. It should come as no surprise then to find that James Cox (vocals), Steve Goddard (guitar), Jith Amarasinghe (bass) and Sam Lister (drums), better known as Crows, like nothing more than a good tourist attraction, so, for our latest Top 10 feature, we got Steve from the band to tell us about ten of their favourite tourist locations.
1. Niagara (Town and Falls) www.niagarafallstourism.com
“We stayed on the Canadian side and it was like a big theme park of a town, loads of arcades and go karts and haunted houses, the falls were totally mesmerising too, an amazing thing to see in person.”
2. Snoqualmie Falls & Twede’s Cafe www.twedescafe.com
“Not far from Seattle, these are 2 of the filming locations from Twin Peaks. In a really beautiful part of the world and as fans of the show we were gassed to see the falls and hotel and also that we were able to eat lunch in Twede’s, which was the location for the R&R diner in the show.”
3. Hamburg Zoo www.hagenbeck.de
“We had a day off in Hamburg last European tour and hit up the zoo, it’s really well put together and the enclosures were all large and interesting for the animals. We had never seen a polar bear so that was the main draw for us.”
4. Margaret Island, Budapest www.margaretislandbudapest.com
“A great big park on an island in the Danube in Budapest, we went to the Palatinus Baths and had a blast on the water slides and wave pool, a really fun way to cool off before a show in summer there.”
5. Glow Golf Eindhoven www.glowgolf.nl/eindhoven/
“A very close friend of ours from the Netherlands took us to a glow golf spot in Eindhoven. A real niche novelty to play mini golf under neon and fluorescent lights with 3D glasses on.”
6. Crocodiles of the World www.crocodilesoftheworld.co.uk
“In the middle of nowhere in Oxfordshire there is a places called ‘Crocodiles of the World,’ we went there to break up a drive one tour and we were all extremely hungover. A kid accidentally dropped a water bottle into one of the croc pools and we were horrified how quickly they were on to it shredding it pieces. Nature is metal etc.”
7. Chateau Chillon/swimming in Lake Geneva www.chillon.ch
“Last year we played a show in the Great Hall of Chateau Chillon in Switzerland. After soundcheck we had full reign of the castle and explored every last bit of it, it was dope as. Few years before this show we played Montreux Jazz Festival (just up the road from Chateau Chillon) and went skinny dipping in the lake, we were surprised how warm the water was.”
8. Tina’s Place – NYC
“So many places that we could have picked in NYC but going for a little diner we stumbled on near where we stayed called Tina’s Place. As it was our first stop on our first ever tour of the States we were all so excited to be eating in what looked like something out of many of the US TV shows and films that we have grown up on where there’s a diner scene. Really sound staff too.”
9. Malham Cove www.malhamdale.com/malhamcove/
“Our old drummer Laurence grew up near here and took us here a few times. We’ve been there more or less every time we’ve played Leeds as it’s not too far away. Super peaceful and stunning views. God’s own country.”
10. Monterey & Highway 1, California
“We stopped in the town of Monterey on our drive from San Francisco to LA. The aquarium is amazing and a rehabilitation centre for local wildlife before rereleasing them to the wild. Monterey sea front had amazing spots to eat too. Then the drive down highway 1 to LA was super dramatic the whole way, we saw whales swimming in the ocean from the roadside and stopped to check out some elephant seals on the beach too, like being part of the Blue Planet crew.”
