Cannibal Corpse & Municipal Waste Pound O2 Victoria Warehouse Manchester into Dust [Photos]
Cannibal Corpse, with help from Municipal Waste and Immolation, hosts a night of savagery at O2 Victoria Warehouse Manchester.
As the UK leg of the Cannibal Corpse European tour nears an end, this four-band bill steamrollers into Manchester with the extreme metal community turning out en masse for what will be a night of brutality many won’t forget.
Sadly, death/thrash metal openers Schizophrenia have been and gone by the time we arrive at the venue, having battled through the usual Manchester Friday evening traffic. It might be an early start, but judging by the numbers already inside, many made it through. Next are New York death metal veterans Immolation, who crank up the blackened death metal savagery with a set that dips right back through their career. A favourite and personal choice of Cannibal Corpse, Immolation, pummel through the likes of “The Age of No Light” with bodies now spitting over the barrier.
Speaking of which, special guests Municipal Waste had no problem whipping this crowd into a frenzy. The Richmond, Virginia crossover thrashers turn the floor into one big circle pit as the number of bodies flying over the barrier from all angles almost quadruples. Overseeing the chaos is Municipal Waste frontman Tony Foresta, who, time and time again, puts security to the test. Skidding through pit-friendly anthems like “Headbanger Face Rip” and “The Art of Partying,” Municipal Waste came, conquered and, yes, really did “fuck Manchester up!”
By the time Cannibal Corpse arrived, the New York heavyweights making sure that there was no letting off the gas for their set. Necks snap back and forth on and off the stage as the band grinds through “Scourge of Iron” while “Inhumane Harvest” continues the death metal battery. A majestic sight wherever your vantage point in the room is, frontman George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher windmills as the band slams through “Disposal of the Body” while “Pounded Into Dust” does exactly what it says on the tin.
With fans of all ages sporting a vast array of gruesome merchandise, Cannibal Corpse delivers exactly what the bloodthirsty masses want. “Fucked With A Knife” gets its usual dedication while “Pit of Zombies” and “Stripped, Raped and Strangled” bring up the rear of the set. With still plenty left in the tank, the New York death metal machine smashes through a crunching “Hammer Smashed Face,” dragging what little is left of the Manchester metal community over the finish line, bringing this murderous night to a brutal conclusion.
