As Anthony Premieres His Sentimental “With You” Music Video
Singer-songwriter As Anthony has teamed up with folk vocalist Kelley Smith for the premiere of his new “With You” music video.
There’s a lot that’s relatable within As Anthony’s new single “With You” and its accompanying music video. Sometimes, the closest distances can feel like worlds apart, which is one of the themes of this new video clip. Featured in the song is Kelley Smith, a talented Minnesota folk singer-songwriter.
Also contributing to “With You” is Seattle multi-instrumentalist Mitch Etter. Working in tandem as vocalists, As Anthony and Smith conjure up a pile of different and conflicting emotions. Loving, longing, remorseful, regretful, hopeful, you can feel them all within the song.
Discussing the concept behind the video, As Anthony tells us:
“The video was inspired by a montage sequence in Citizen Kane which always stuck with me. There’s an ever-increasing physical separation in each successive scene. With the opening lyric: ‘I think we’re growing apart…’ We couldn’t resist experimenting with the same idea.”
The release of the “With You” music video comes a day ahead of As Anthony’s new record, Vaudeville Skies. The record was entirely written, produced, and recorded by As Anthony. He describes the album as a meditation on identity and self-determination. There is a restlessness and unsettled feeling throughout its nine tracks.
The record came about during a time when he was pondering the logistics and consequences of leaving the life he had created completely behind. It wasn’t as if he was ready to pull the plug completely, but he was at least weighing his options. Ultimately, Anthony realized that even if he did pull the proverbial plug, nothing would change that drastically. He’d still be living in the same world as he always was.
We’re all in the same boat, but Anthony doesn’t see anything wrong with a little bit of daydreaming. And change can be good up to a point, so let’s all have a little fun with it while we can.
