Hong Kong’s own Wellsaid continues to push the boundaries of indie rock with their latest single, “Lighter Head.” The track, a fuzzed-out, guitar-heavy ode to the alt-rock sounds of the ’90s, taps into a nostalgic yet refreshingly raw energy that is quickly becoming the band’s signature.

Formed in the vibrant and burgeoning independent music scene of Asia, Wellsaid has made a name for themselves by blending influences from Midwest emo, post-hardcore, and Asian indie. With their roots firmly planted in Hong Kong, the four-piece has served as a vital conduit between cities and bands, embodying the DIY ethos crucial to the underground music scene.

“Lighter Head,” recorded at Taipei’s renowned 112F Recording Studio and engineered by the legendary Zen Chein, is a testament to the band’s growing prowess. The track’s narrative is a daydream scenario of plunging into hell to rescue a loved one, encapsulating themes of loss and the bonds that endure even in the face of unimaginable adversity.

Adding a layer of sonic intensity, the song features a blistering guitar solo from Pillof Yau of the Taiwanese indie outfit Super Napkin, whose glitchy, fuzz-laden sound perfectly complements Wellsaid’s vision. The single’s cover art—a quirky, four-panel cartoon—was created by US artist Frankie Yoshi, further emphasizing the band’s collaborative spirit and commitment to a cohesive artistic vision.

Wellsaid’s upcoming album, REGRETOPIA, set to drop in late September, promises to expand on the themes explored in “Lighter Head,” with the band moving beyond their midwest-emo beginnings to embrace a more punk and post-hardcore aesthetic.

In August, Wellsaid was spotlighted on the covers of several official Spotify playlists, including .ORG and +852 Rising, in anticipation of their single “Imaginary Road Trip,” further solidifying their place in the pantheon of rising indie acts to watch. With REGRETOPIA on the horizon, Wellsaid is poised to deliver an album that could be a defining moment in their career—and in the broader landscape of Asian indie rock.
