Throwlight Release Their Debut Single “Back Down”
Southern California hard rock, hardcore, and hip-hop group Throwlight has released their debut single “Back Down” ahead of their debut LP.
Southern California metal/hip-hop/hardcore group Throwlight has announced their debut single, “Back Down.” Available on all streaming platforms, the single was produced by Paul Miner (Death By Stereo, Fear, New Found Glory, Adolescents, etc). The group is also putting the final touches on their debut album, which will be announced for a fall release.
“Back Down” is a commentary on the overwhelming influence of media and technology in our lives. The track explores the struggle to find truth amidst the misinformation and political agendas that dominate social media and advertisements. Inspired by early 2000s hardcore Rocom’s lyrics channel the frustration of being perpetually glued to screens that dictate how we should live.
Discussing the song, rapper Rocom states:
“‘Back Down’ is about our relationship to media and technology. It’s a constant fight to find truth when ads and social media are clouded in misinformation and political agendas. After hearing the riffs written by our guitarist Chris, I wanted to start a band influenced by my favourite sounds from hardcore tracks from the early 2000s. ‘Back Down’ reflects the frustrations of being glued to our screens that constantly tell us how to live.”
The members of Throwlight have known each other since childhood, forging deep bonds long before the band was formed. When underground rapper Rocom, learned that his high school friends, Kevin Betz and Chris Ellis, were starting a metal band, he eagerly stepped in as lead vocalist. With a torrent of lyrics and rap bars, the foundation for their first few songs took shape. However, the final element came together when Rocom’s longtime collaborator in rap, King of Somewhere, introduced his synth sounds, blending hip-hop with a heavy metal soundscape for the first time.
Hailing from South Orange County, the four members of Throwlight bring together diverse musical backgrounds in punk, metal, rap, and hardcore. This fusion results in a unique style that combines heavy grooves, catchy leads, and rap verses designed to keep listeners’ heads swinging. Their shared history and varied influences have culminated in a powerful and distinct sound.
