Taylor Swift has prompted a whole new wave of affection for The Darkness’s platinum-selling hit “I Believe In A Thing Called Love.”
Taylor Swift has prompted a new wave of affection for The Darkness’s platinum-selling hit “I Believe In A Thing Called Love.” The song has now stormed to the top of the US iTunes Rock Chart following the viral clip of Swift and boyfriend Travis Kelce enthusiastically singing and dancing to the track at the US Open Women’s Final in New York on Sunday (September 8th).
Swifties have been rallying around the much-loved single, sending it to the top of the iTunes Rock Chart in America and climbing multiple other charts, both in the US and worldwide, thanks to the undeniable power of Swiftonomics.
The Darkness frontman Justin Hawkins has posted a heartfelt thank you to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce via TikTok saying:
“A few weeks ago my daughter and I went to see Taylor Swift at the stadium in Zurich and the hospitality they showed us was extraordinary. They put us in a lovely VIP area, I had Chris Rock on one side, Roger Federer on the other side, I was dad of the year. And to make matters even more spectacular, Taylor Swift sent me a lovely letter which was waiting for me in the VIP section, talking about how much she loves the song “I Believe In A Thing Called Love”. I was dad of the year, maybe dad of the century, because all of that was a big surprise.”
Continuing about when he saw the footage from the US Open after fans flooded him with messages, Hawkins said:
“It was a really heartwarming moment for me, and my little girl can’t wait to tell her friends at school. So thanks Taylor, thanks Travis, thanks everybody who enjoys tennis, that’s a really lovely start to the day. Nice one guys.”
“I Believe In A Thing Called Love” was originally released in 2003 and peaked at No.2 in the UK Official Singles Chart, as well as reaching the Top 10 in the US Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart. It also became a Top 10 hit in countries around the world, from Sweden to New Zealand. The song featured on their debut album Permission To Land that same year, which topped the UK charts, going 5x Platinum and selling over 1.5 million copies in the UK alone, whilst also becoming a huge success everywhere from the USA to Australia, Germany to Japan.
