Sparxsea Goes “Deep” with the Premiere of Her New Single
Singer-songwriter Sparxsea debuts her brand new single “Deep,” a song of self-exploration from her upcoming debut album ‘On the Sea.’
It’s never a bad time to take a look within yourself, and that’s what Sparxsea is doing on her brand new single “Deep.” The song comes from the singer-songwriter’s debut album On the Sea, due for release this Friday. The song is rousing and a bit on the eerie side, with some beautiful instrumentation intermixed.
It feels like a classical piece as if an orchestra is being led through its playing. But it also has plenty of popular appeal and a very relatable subject. The polyrhythmic percussion is intended to replicate the feeling of sinking into uncertain depths both literally and figuratively.
Discussing the song, Sparxsea states:
“‘Deep’ is an exploration of self, a peek at the memories buried beneath the surface of the ‘sea’ that inspired this album. It’s a transition into my next record, Dreamer, which was born in the darkness of my past and raised by my hopes and dreams. It’s a song of solace, yet one of coming home.”
There is a lot of “out at sea” imagery that this album is set against. It’s somewhat of a concept album, a hero’s journey, with each song telling part of the story. Track one, “Little Wooden Boat,” begins with Sparxsea leaving home to set sail, but unlike other hero’s journeys, there’s no coming back in this one. The album concludes with her sinking into the “Deep,” but it’s not death that lies at the end. Quite the contrary, it’s a whole new world she has discovered ready to be explored. Sparxsea views “going deep” as the place where healing takes place. You’re going so deep that you are finding yourself in a whole new environment.
To Sparxsea, this whole new environment is a new album. “Deep” is the exploration of new musical territory that is still being realized. Within pain, there is hope, and On the Sea aims to communicate that. We can discover warmth and love if we’re willing to put in the time and effort to seek it out.
