Social Distortion owned the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver for three nights as part of their 2024 North American tour.
Vancouver was the second city the California punk rock band hit with their 2024 tour. Initially, it was going to be a one-stop tour in Vancouver, but local fans grabbed the tickets like hotcakes which precipitated two more shows being added.
The BellRays took care of the opening act, bringing their perfect combination of rock with soul vocals to deliver a solid set. Some of the songs they performed included “Sister Disaster,” “Fire On The Moon,” “Bad Boy,” “Black Lightning,” and “Coming Down.”
Social Distortion came to the stage with The Rolling Stones’ “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking” playing in the background. They chose “Through These Eyes” to open their set. They followed up with “I Was Wrong” and “I Wasn’t Born to Follow.”
Mike Ness (lead vocals and lead guitar) expressed how happy he was to be back in Vancouver after many years. He told a few stories related to some of the songs like how in some of his lyrics he glorified drugs because he was going through dark times and how that affected his life and the life of many around him.
They continued their set with “Mommy’s Little Monster,” “Hour of Darkness,” “Lude Boy,” and others. Their set was extracted from a good part of their discography, going back to Mommy’s Little Monster (1989) and then forward to Hard Times and Nursery Rhymes (2011).
They performed 16 songs in total and closed their set with “Born to Kill” and the ideal closers, “Story of My Life,” and a rousing rendition of their version of Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire.”
