Master Splinter Turn the Guitars Up on Their “Wednesday Night” Single [Premiere]
Reminiscent of the funky hard rock of yesteryear, Master Splinter has turned the guitars up for the premiere of “Wednesday Night.”
As a band, Master Splinter might remind you more of a traditional hard rock act. If you check out the premiere of their new single “Wednesday Night,” you’ll see what we mean. What was common in a lot of the ’70s and ’80s hard rock acts was that most of them had a funkiness to them. Think of Aerosmith or Van Halen.
Even within the monstrous riffs, there was a groove and a funk. The same goes for Master Splinter, a band that does not hide its true intentions to get you to rock out while boogieing down. “Wednesday Night” is propelled by its monstrous riffs, balanced with a psychedelic atmosphere. It combines new and old influences nicely, making the band ideal for different generations of rockers.
Commenting on the song, lead singer Mick Arrell states:
“This song uses a toxic relationship as a metaphor for alcoholism. It is autobiographical, but fortunately, it’s all long been in the rearview mirror. I wrote it to be funky, heavy, sinister and tried to give it sort of an unhinged vibe because we all know that’s how toxic relationships operate. Crazy making!”
Arrell is supported in his rock n’ roll endeavours by his highly capable partner Jason Schauer. As the two primary songwriters, they aim to combine epic stories together to create more amusing scenarios for their listeners. Metaphorical characters are put to good use rather than more traditional, straightforward narratives. The band formed in 2021 when Arrell returned to his hometown of Portland, Oregon after having lived abroad. Previous to his travels, he had been a mainstay of the local scene for many years, playing in several local acts.
Since last year, Master Splinter has taken things up a notch. They are more focused than they’ve ever been on writing, recording, and performing live. The band is determined to be the ones to get the party started and keep it going until the wee hours of the morning.
