leisure fm Premiere Their Dream-Pop Inspired Single “illuminated manuscript”
Dream pop duo leisure fm have premiered their new single “illuminated manuscript,” a look at the highs and lows of love.
If music is the counterpart to the visual arts, then leisure fm is painting quite the picture for you with their new single “illuminated manuscript.” The twin duo of Milena and Weronika Szymanek use a lot of fabled symbolism to express themselves as artists, drawing very much on the inspirations they have been exposed to since childhood.
“illuminated manuscript” is a continued expansion of the duo’s unique dream-pop sound. It’s a beautifully produced track with luscious electronic textures, budding synths, and a trip-hop-inspired beat. It doesn’t quite fit into any neat musical classification, which is very much by design.
The song itself is an exploration of the highs and lows of love, all through the lens of the myth of Icarus. It plays off of themes such as uneasy truths and revelations in the night, something inspired by the poetry of Dylan Thomas
Elaborating on the theme, leisure fm tells us:
“With this single, we wanted to weave the imagery of Icarus melting his wings into a trip-hop landscape, capturing the volatile dance between love’s agony and ecstasy, with the production echoing both longing and defiance of a scorned lover.”
The fabled symbolism previously mentioned is one of the real creative forces behind this musical venture. The Szymanek twins grew up around a lot of the gothic Catholic imagery of Poland and Welsh mythical traditions. Growing up around these influences has naturally infused in them big imaginations which helps explain the many melancholic reflections and poetic ruminations you find within their music.
The interplay of guitars, synths, electronics, and mesmerizing vocals is impressive, given that it shows that they are interested in being more than just another electronic-sounding act. This is a full-on expansion of leisure fm’s dream-pop fantasy waiting to be discovered.
