Kings of Leon Brings the Party to Rogers Arena in Vancouver [Photos]
Alternative rock mainstays Kings of Leon, accompanied by Phantogram, brought a night of fan favourites to Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
The Rogers Arena welcomed the fun of Kings of Leon’s “Can We Please Have Fun Tour” on August 31st. The American alternative rock band finally returned to Vancouver after what Caleb Followill (lead vocalist) described as an eternity and, boy; they made up for it. They are touring with electronic rock band Phantogram who prepared the fans for what would come.
Phantogram ran all over their discography, opening with “Don’t Move” from their 2011 EP Nightlife. Their combination of rhythms and great vocals made their set pleasant and fun. They performed ten songs and closed their set with When “I’m Small.”
Kings of Leon hit the stage around 8:40 pm, which was a good indication that they were going to perform a lot of hits since headliners usually start around or after 9 pm. They started with “Ballerina Radio,” and the crowd was quick to sing along.
For the twelfth song, the band performed “Birthday,” a song they hadn’t performed since 2014 but did so because it was the birthday of a friend in the crowd. Some other tracks they performed included “Sex on Fire,” “Beautiful War,” “The Bandit,” and “M Television.”
As suspected by the early starting time, Kings of Leon performed 24 songs, closing their regular set with “Seen” and “Closer.” But that was not enough for the fans asking for more songs after the band left the stage.
The band, grateful for the love the Vancouverites showed them, returned to the stage to perform a three-song encore of “Rainbow Ball,” “Knocked Up,” and the perfect closer, “Use Somebody.”
