Glass Animals & Eyedress Rock Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver [Photos]

It’s been quite some time since I planned on arriving to a concert two hours before doors. Glass Animals is the exception. So much so that I flew into Denver for the occasion. A friend and I had discussed for about two-and-a-half minutes before deciding that Red Rocks Amphitheatre was definitely happening. That’s all the time needed to make that decision.

We made it to the half moon parking lot, just around 5 pm. This is where we did some minor hiking all the TikToks warned us about. Upon reaching the parking lot at the top, we discovered people were tailgating, with food, drinks, and games. Lines were already forming with those trying for the best chance at the ideal general admission seat.

Dozens of people dressed in a wide range of outfits. From space suits, to home made tops as well as Glass Animal themed nails. A group of fans were walking the line handing out QR codes and coloured paper. During “Lost In The Ocean” attendees were to put the paper over the phone’s flash. The QR code was to share with others around you to scan for the same colour from their screens.

Once inside, we hit the merch lines before we took our seats. These lines were already long but moved fairly quickly. A tee and hoodie will run you roughly 120 dollars. And make sure you know the size you need, they do not want anyone to slow down the line.

First Up

There was only one opening band, Eyedress. Learning recently that his song has been viral on TikTok. The “Jealous” video alone, has 71 million views on YouTube. This version of the band consists of five additional people. While a talented group – it was certainly an interesting choice as an opener for Glass Animals. However, the woman behind us declared that performance was the best set she’s ever seen.

Glass Animals Take the Stage

At about 9 pm, Glass Animals took the stage. Waving as they walked out to an amphitheater of thousands of excited fans. They opened with “Life Itself” from their second album, How to Be Human. Followed by “Your Love (Déjà vu),” which is from their 2020 release, Dreamland. They continued with a performance of, “Wonderful Nothing” from their latest release, I Love You So F*cking Much. The rest of the set mostly alternated between songs from these albums.

The song selection was very dancey. This kept the energy high and bodies moving. Lead singer Dave Bayley had mentioned the show the night before was good, but that there was something special in the air this night. It was hard to deny. Even in the rain, as my hoodie was becoming drenched, I danced, and sang. And as mascara ran into my eyes, I couldn’t help but feel lucky for such an experience.

Most impressively this four-person human musical group sensation can command the attention of so many people. Dave gave lots of acknowledgement  to the fans for their outfits and costume efforts as well as toughing it out in the rain. At one point, he walked about halfway up and and halfway in to perform from the crowd.

When attending a Glass Animals concert, there isn’t much to be disappointed about. The bands collective stage performance is only made more impressive by their spaceship theme on the stage. It is quite a sight to witness and fits right into their “Tour of Earth.” With holograms, lasers, and accompanying graphics.

The band and the fans are having an equally good time, with fun song choices, one can’t help but have a fantastic time. So much so, I’ve made the setlist into a Spotify playlist. This way that night can live on.

You still have a chance to catch Glass Animals on tour. Their U.S. leg runs through September 20th before they head off to the international portion of the tour starting October 14th and going to almost the end of the year.
