George Alley has no time for naysayers. He’s too busy pursuing his passions. He’s about to land on a landmark moment in his career with the release of his self-titled debut album this Friday. In the meantime, we have the music video for “King In Town” to enjoy and engage with. Alley is a Philadelphia-based artist that V13 has featured numerous times. This is the fourth single to be shared off of the soon-to-come record.

Growing up as a child and a young adult, Alley was captivated by all sorts of different music. Punk rock was his primary focus, but not far behind were the pop songs he grew up listening to while auditioning for the New Mickey Mouse Club. It was also the dance music he was hearing in clubs in New York and Berlin. You hear that blend of influences throughout this debut record.

Discussing his new single, Alley tells us:

“I love brass. ‘King in Town’ was inspired by all the ska I love like Madness, The Specials, The Selector, etc. I like portraying myself as a flawed character, I’m not always the good guy in every story and this is about being in love with someone who is in love with someone else and not always wanting to be the bigger person about it.”

With his debut record almost here, it’s something of a weight off of George Alley’s shoulders. But as his resume illustrates, he is so much more than just a songwriter. He is also a composer, professor, journalist, podcaster, choreographer, and curator. In essence, he is an artist in every sense of the word. Alley has been releasing singles, performing, and creating original music and dance pieces as part of his company, Alley Ink. He has also overseen several music video collaborations alongside Adam Peditto. Alley has also been a curator of Collage, a Philadelphia multimedia arts festival. He is a frequent contributor to the UK-based LGBTQ-focused Loverboy Magazine and a podcaster for the highly popular comedy-focused show ‘I’m Going to Kill You!.’

With all of his artistic endeavours, Ally maintains the same high energy enthusiasm you see in this video. There’s no slowing him down with his eyes always firmly on the next artistic challenge he can apply himself to.
