What better way to spend a Wednesday night than at The Anthem in Washington, D.C. seeing one of our favourite pop icons, right? That’s what we thought, too. This past week, Fletcher headlined the infamous venue as part of the “In Search of the Antidote Tour,” taking along Maude Latour for the lovely ride. Maude got the night started with an upbeat and jubilant energy, playing tracks off her latest release Sugar Water (2024) and talking about her glow-up journey through D.C.’s venues. We can absolutely say, we can’t wait for her to be back.
After the intermission, the house lights went out and the entire venue lit up in an anticipatory roar. The giant backing screen popped on with a montage of close-ups of Fletcher herself. One by one, the band made their way to the stage amidst the ambient sounds growing louder in preparation for Fletcher to make her mark center stage. Adorned in an iconic black leather set, Fletcher kicked off the show with “Maybe I Am,” the first track off of her newest album release and tour’s namesake, In Search of the Antidote (2024). This song started the night off in such a powerful way before jumping into “Sting,” where Fletcher got to showcase her powerhouse vocals.
Fletcher’s setlist was a carefully curated amalgamation of her genre-spanning discography. Fom her sultry pop tracks that truly put her on the map like “Shh…Don’t Say It” and “Bitter” off THE S(EX) TAPES (2020) to more melancholy and vibey tracks like “Healing” and “If You’re Gonna Lie.” Despite this tour being Fletcher’s opportunity to honour her latest release, it was nonetheless a party celebrating her music throughout the years and the sense of community she has helped build for queer folks at her shows and beyond.
The pride, joy, and sense of belonging were evident in the room from the moment we walked in. It radiated up until the last note of her highly anticipated encore with “Becky’s So Hot.”
Fletcher will continue making her way to major cities across the U.S. before heading over to Australia later this fall.
