DRMAGDN – “ICE CREAM” [Song Review]
Brimming with effervescent, supple surfaces of EDM, “ICE CREAM” reveals a reverence for tradition while exploding with sub-bass.
Multi-talented producer/DJ/drummer DRMAGDN has unleashed his latest banger, “ICE CREAM,” a bass house big room re-imagination of the ice cream truck jingle, painting the feeling of hot summers and sugary memories.
DRMAGDN explains, “I was walking in the park and heard the iconic ice cream truck theme which brought back some amazing childhood memories. But hearing that theme with new ears, it is actually quite a jam.”
The visualizer for “ICE CREAM” portrays animated ice cream characters, while the official music video escorts viewers through The Museum of Ice Cream in New York City. Giving back is part of DRMAGDN’s philosophy: he donates 150 dollars from each release to select charities. This time, proceeds will go to Ice Cream Dream, which delivers ice cream to children in need worldwide. Proceeds will also go to For Goodness Cakes and Cake4Kids, organizations dedicated to baking graduation and birthday cakes for foster children.
With more than 25 million total plays and views, DRMAGDN has performed in 34 countries and 43 U.S. states. Venues and events include The Winter Olympics, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, MetLife Stadium, NY Fashion Week, Warped Tour, Lollapalooza, The Today Show, The View, and Royal Albert Hall.
His notable releases include “My Best,” his remix of George Harrison’s “Something,” “Say Less Be More” with Alle Guercio, and “Get Tough” with Manny Cabo.
“ICE CREAM” opens with the familiar ice cream truck tune, followed by ramping up to heavy layers of EDM synths, shimmering and sparkling atop a punchy, vibrant rhythm. A deep male voice echoes out “ice cream,” as ingenuous female vocals chime forth “hello.” Retro and modern at the same time, the melody pulsates with nostalgic flavours and contemporary oomph.
Brimming with effervescent, supple surfaces of EDM, “ICE CREAM” reveals a reverence for tradition while exploding with sub-bass.
