Chris Erasmus Releases New Single, “Shotgun”
London-based Country-Americana singer-songwriter Chris Erasmus has released his brand new single “Shotgun.”
Introducing the London-based Chris Erasmus and his defiant new single, “Shotgun.”
The singer-songwriter has a long, committed relationship with music, and “Shotgun” is another in a long line of releases that delivers Chris’ expert craftsmanship and emotional range. Not only is Chris’ career historic, but it is also vibrant and eclectic; he is a trained classical musician, experienced in musical theatre, and has a rich global background spanning his hometown of Zimbabwe, Cape Town, Australia, New York, and London. These vast life experiences effortlessly translate into his music, showing a dimensional, well-rounded perspective, and “Shotgun” is a shining example of this.
The track is a four-minute masterclass in practicing patience and nurturing emotional growth. As Chris seemingly recalls a turbulent relationship, he finds his stride in the realization that, ultimately, you always have the power to leave a situation rather than further fuel the fire. The self-aware lyrics further reinforce this idea of finding peace within these decisions, “I’m driving alone on this road, but I’m not lonely / Just time as company,” turning a potentially poignant song into one of empowerment.
Discussing the song himself, Chris mentions:
“It’s about when you get to the point in a relationship or interaction where you just wanna explode, but instead you’re done – you just walk out instead.”
Chris’ driving vocals perfectly encapsulate this infuriation and eventual confidence in making a difficult but necessary decision, and his rich timbre is a natural fit within the Americana-Country genre he has honed throughout his career. With the instrumental elevating his vocals, the smooth electric and acoustic guitars, energetic backing vocals, and grounding drums, “Shotgun” has everything an Americana track needs to thrive.
His pure talent and comprehensive background have unsurprisingly led to commercial success, including on the Billboard Dance Chart, where Chris’ cover of “Fires” placed in 2019.
Combined with his never-ending dedication to music, it is Chris’ ability to not only shift between
genres but master them that makes him so exciting to watch. “Shotgun” excellently showcases his clean-cut, refined talent and leaves listeners waiting to see how exactly he’ll manipulate this in future capacities.
