Shutter Premiere Their Impassioned “Erase Me” Music Video
New Jersey heavy rockers Shutter premiere their brand new music video for “Erase Me” from their upcoming new EP ‘Above Us All.’
Sometimes, you just have to let it all out, which is what Shutter has done with their new single “Erase Me.” Today, the New Jersey group is following up the release of the single with its accompanying music video. For a song this fierce, it requires a video clip equally as powerful. They have accomplished that with an impassioned, in-your-face performance video featuring the band performing in the pouring rain. With “Erase Me,” the band is laying emotions bare while digging deep to remain optimistic even though they feel they are at a breaking point.
This is the second single from their brand new album, Above Us All, due out on October 18th. It was also the first song written for the album. It serves as a perfect introduction to the band for new listeners with its duelling vocals from singer and guitarist Jonni Correa and bassist and singer Dawid Warchol.
Commenting on the clip for “Erase Me,” Correa states:
“The inspiration for this music video was based on a lot of the themes of the song. The ‘death’ of innocence and interpersonal relationships dying off literally and figuratively. We have been working with our good buddy Eric DeCarlo for a long time and visually, he’s been able to help us bring our ideas to life. We also had a good friend of ours, Amanda Davidowski, put together scripts and help us with the direction and fine details of the video.”
If you’re just recently discovering Shutter, you’re finding them at a good time. It’s been a couple of years since the release of their Fade EP. And in that time, the band has grown a lot, modifying their musical and songwriting approach. While their earlier musical output tended to be more introspective, Above Us All is set to be much more expansive. The new songs are grander reflections on life and our place in the world. This alteration in approach was prompted by a lot of personal turmoil in the lives of the band members. It started to feel like things were falling apart around them. They were observing family members being broken by the death of loved ones and also losing friends to drugs. With their faith and their will being challenged, they felt it was time for a change.
Enter Above Us All, Shutter’s most mature set of songs to date. Featuring crunching grooves and soaring vocals, the EP pushes its way through stories of the lows of mental health to building your own self-reliance while questioning the life lessons you were taught as a child. It’s also about making peace with who you are. It’s clear that despite any struggles, the band is in a better place, both personally and musically.
