In an oversaturated land of rock and pop music, it’s hard to be distinctive, but Scene Queen has had little difficulty pulling that off. For a new listener, it would only take about 30 seconds to see what we mean. There is no one like Hannah Collins’ songwriting moniker, Scene Queen. Rather than latch on to one style or sound, she has formulated her own, which she coined Bimbocore. Mix metal, metalcore, punk, and pop, and you’ll be honing in on this offbeat subgenre. And it’s a subgenre that has been a hit with listeners as well. Named the best international breakthrough artist at the 2023 Heavy Music Awards, Scene Queen has also racked up an astonishing 100 million streams. There’s sure to be a lot more to add to that with her debut album, Hot Singles In Your Area, released recently via Hopeless Records.

As you might imagine, her live show is an absolute bolt of lightning. It’s part of what has endeared her to a dedicated fanbase. Collins is becoming known for her forthright female activism which is apparent within her lyrics. She stands up for human rights and doesn’t hesitate to call out other artists for their inaction. She is committed to inclusivity and is proud to use her music as an outlet for free expression and a way to blow off steam.

We have been longtime supporters of Scene Queen. And we are happy to have her join us today for Purely Provocative is Scene Queen herself for a more unconventional interview than you’ll find anywhere else.

What’s the weirdest request you’ve ever had? What was the context?

Scene Queen: “Someone asked me to sign their Plan B pill at a show. I laughed and really enjoyed it but then emphasized that it was a time-sensitive medication and if they were going to take it they should do so now.”

Who from history do you think was an actual wizard?

“My guitar player Dan, he knows way too much medieval lore to not be.”

What do you love most about yourself?

“I think I love really deeply and with my whole heart. I’m also never embarrassed, really. I’m just my whole self all the time.”

“I shower twice a day on tour and people are always impressed that I make this happen in time for load out.”

Name some of your biggest pet peeves.

“When the shopping cart wheel goes the wrong way and is loud as hell. Also, when kids have runny noses and then get in a pool with them, and I see the boogers suddenly gone when they come back out, so I know they’re in the pool. Also, my dad calls me all of my sibling’s names in a last before mine.”
