Rob McNelley Drops “Circus Is Leaving Town” Single with ’70s Folk Flair

The illustrious Nashville guitarist Rob McNelley, known for his work with music icons such as Bob Seger, Dolly Parton, and Luke Combs, has just released his new single, “Circus Is Leaving Town.” This track, co-written with Bob Rea and co-produced by GRAMMY Award-winning Justin Francis, emphasizes McNelley’s skill in crafting vivid, storytelling-driven music, set against a backdrop of rich folk and rock instrumentation.

Lyrically, the song delves into the theme of manipulation and deceit, painting a vivid picture of the aftermath left by a “master manipulator,” as McNelley describes it.

“Circus is leaving town is a song about someone you know. The master manipulator. It might be your boss, family member, your ex, a politician, etc. They only reveal themselves once they’ve moved on. This is about that person.”

The chorus poignantly captures this sentiment:

“I’m not sure what to do with this moment / sleight, of hand’s got me reeling right now / Trying to keep my world from crashing down / every time / I turn around / the jugglers and clowns / have torn it all down / the circus is leaving town.”
