Post-Punk Vegans RIZTS Premiere Surreal Animated Video for “Parasite”
Post-punk trio RIZTS have dropped a surreal animated video for their new single “Parasite.” Check out the premiere here…
British post-punk outfit RIZTS have announce a brand new release with the arrival of new single “Parasite”. The single is lifted from the upcoming self-titled album out this October through Krautpop! Records.
A unique amalgamation of punk, dub, post-punk and math rock, RIZTS are a three-piece gothic-grunge project charged by vegan ideologies that submerge dark melodies into sonic chaos. Birthed from the murky waters of the Falmouth punk scene in 2019, RIZTS have been causing pandemonium in the deep depths of Cornwall and are ready to emerge and take on the rest of the UK.
The start of their takeover comes in the form of “Parasite” and you can check out the surreal animated video here:
Songwriter, vocalist Billy Joe Mattock explains: “This track was one of the first written for the album. For years I had been struggling to write meaningful lyrics that I can truly believe in and put my all into when I am performing. In the past I have been wary of writing about the meat industry due to not wanting to diminish such a huge topic to a naive attempt of a protest. I decided to give it a go and it immediately became the perfect catalyst for this album, each song focusing on a different aspect of the meat and dairy industry.”
“In the past I have been wary of writing about the meat industry due to not wanting to diminish such a huge topic to a naive attempt of a protest.”
He continues: “I found that not only were these songs the most genuine, authentic thing I’d ever written, it was also a perfect cathartic expulsion of my lifelong frustrations with the current relationship between animals and humans. The song ‘Parasite’ is written from the nightmarish perspective of an animal like a fox being hunted for pleasure, yet acts as a metaphor for the relationship between humans and animals with humans acting as a parasite to Mother Earth. ‘A species that feeds off another is, by nature, a parasite’”.
The band’s debut album, Burn the Witch was released in July 2023 and their brand new self-titled RIZTS album is coming out October 4th 2024 on Krautpop.
