Okean Elzy – “Lighthouse” [Song Review]
Prayer-like and emotionally moving, Okean Elzy’s new single “Lighthouse” gives free rein to the mesmerizing ambiance of alluring, soft rock.
Following on the heels of “Voices Are Rising,” Ukrainian rock outfit Okean Elzy has released their new single/music video, “Lighthouse,” the title track from their upcoming first-ever English album, scheduled for release on October 11th. “Lighthouse” features Johnny Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls and Travis Barker on drums.
Singer Sviastoslav ‘Slava’ Vakarchuk shares:
“‘Lighthouse’ is a very powerful metaphor for me. As a Ukrainian I couldn’t think of a better metaphor to express our hope for the future, which is part of why the song and album bear that name.”
Okean Elzy will take off on their North American tour on October 21st in Toronto, followed by performances across the U.S., including The Theater at Madison Square Garden. The tour will end on November 7th at The Novo in Los Angeles. On December 4th, the band will headline O2 Academy Brixton in London.
A portion of the tour’s proceeds will be donated to Open Eyes Fund, specifically supporting their Drive For Life initiative, whose goal is to deliver 30 ambulances, along with essential medical equipment, to the frontlines where urgent medical assistance is required. A portion of the proceeds from the song will be donated to United24, an initiative launched by the President of Ukraine in support of the country during the ongoing war.
“Lighthouse” opens on lightly gleaming guitars topped by soft, evocative vocals. The gently swaying motion of the melody infuses the tune with beguiling warmth and deep emotional flavours. Blending in plush harmony, the voices of Rzeznik and Slava exude exquisitely subtle timbres of hopeful optimism.
Simultaneously prayer-like and emotionally moving, Okean Elzy gives free rein to the mesmerizing ambiance of alluring, soft rock.
