For the second time this Summer, pop-rock stars McFly took over The Piece Hall in Halifax for the kind of party that the Yorkshire town hadn’t seen this Summer. With not a ticket in sight, the McFly fan army made sure that Halifax and, judging by the noise, the neighbouring towns were fully aware of who was in town.
The first thing of note is that, prior to the band hitting the stage, McFly knew exactly how to whip the crowd into a frenzy… not that it was needed. Figuratively speaking, the roof would have lifted off this place had it had one; with the PA pumping out banger after banger from Queen to Bon Jovi to The Village People, The Piece Hall was rocking as the quartet bounded out and into opener “Where Did All The Guitars Go?”
Possessing endless amounts of energy and feeding off the energy of the crowd, McFly makes sure to cram as much fun and fan favourites into their set as possible. Blitzing through a career-spanning set, “Land of the Bees” and “One For The Radio” followed in succession as the band delivered a faultless performance.
Barely ten minutes in, Dougie, Danny, Tom and Harry had the crowd in the palms of their hands, and those hardcore fans lapped up every minute. Singing every word to every song back to the band, as the night wrapped up with their 2004 hit single “Five Colours In Her Hair”, the band left have turned this corner of Halifax into the place to be on Sunday night.
