JPEGMAFIA stopped by Vancouver as part of his “Lay Down My Life Tour” at a sold-out Vogue Theatre on August 17th.

The American rapper and producer had the venue packed with young Vancouverites who were ready to rage, mosh, and sing along to his hits.

The night began with opener Jane Remover and her alternative sounds. She opened her performance with “Flash in the Pan.” For her live performance, her songs have a heavier rock feel, but without leaving the hyper pop side and leaning into the auto-tune for her vocals.

She did seven songs and closed with “Idling Somewhere” and “Dream Sequence.”

As soon as PEGGY hit the stage and started with his first song for the night, “Jesus Forgive Me, I Am a Thot,” the crowd began jumping, and each jump increased the temperature of the venue. For the fourth song, he performed an unconventional song for a rapper, covering “Call Me Maybe” by Carly Rae Jepsen.

In the middle of his set, he performed four songs back-to-back from his joint album with rapper Danny Brown, SCARING THE HOES. He did “Steppa Pig,” “Garbage Pale Kids,” “SCARING THE HOES,” and “God Loves You.” But for that last one, he did not include Brown’s verse because he said it was too legendary to sing it that night.

For the whole set, there was a big mosh pit at the center of the crowd, and you could see fans soaking wet and taking short breaks to catch a breath and drink some water.

PEGGY performed 24 songs, closing with “it’s dark and hell is hot,” which described perfectly how it felt inside the venue. After all the jumping, moshing and screaming, fans could have gone for 24 more songs.
