Glass Noose Considers Complacency with Latest Single, “C093542” [Premiere]

When he commits himself to something, Tristan Zemtseff of Glass Noose can’t help but aim high. It’s in his nature. The sort of one-man band today debuts their new single “C093542” from their new album Glazz Nooze. Due out on August 23rd, the album will feature eleven new genre-bending tracks. It’s hard to classify it since Zemtseff isn’t the type to take the simple approach.

He has taken a highly progressive approach to Glass Noose, honing in over the years on an ambitious, adventurous, and experimental sound. It’s like a mishmash of prog rock, emo, math rock, and punk all in one. Since 2017, Zemtseff has released six EPs, four singles, and three albums as Glass Noose. Glazz Nooze is set to be the longest and most definitive musical statement from Zemtseff yet.

“C093542” has an interesting backstory that Zemtseff shares with us:

“‘C093542,’ The band calls it C3PO and I can’t really blame them. But this song is about a 2022 California court case (Almond Alliance of California v. California Department of Fish and Wildlife, No. C093542) that determined bees can be considered fish in order to protect them under the California Endangered Species Act. Since insects are not covered by the act’s definition of ‘species’ for whatever reason, they decided that the best way to protect bees under this act was to classify them as fish, rather than alter the act to include insects.

“I use it as a metaphor for society’s reluctance to change any of the systems that are in place. Instead, the powers that be consistently take the path of least resistance in an attempt to satisfy the general public by showing them that something is happening while enacting as little genuine change as they can get away with. (see: Obamacare instead of a ground-up reinvention of the American healthcare system. The back-and-forth about limitations on assault weapons and what is defined as one, etc.).”

For a long time, Glass Noose was just Zemtseff, but he has now welcomed Andrea Holther-Cruz aboard to play keys and provide additional vocals. Glazz Nooze is the fourth proper studio album from Glass Noose, with Zemtseff writing, recording, and producing everything. The album was recorded and produced in two small Seattle apartment studios. Now based in Pittsburgh, Zemtseff previously called Seattle home. Glazz Nooze is an expression of everything that he has tried to do with Glass Noose since starting the project in 2016.

The album is pensive, featuring moments of reflection on a wide variety of experiences. Zemtseff considers his feelings with regard to loved ones he has lost, the experience of being carjacked, and other misadventures along the way. Despite it all, he focuses on making the best of it and being the best person he can be. And he is happy to have arrived at what he views to be the best version of Glass Noose yet.
